Main Ingredients
  • 1.5 pounds flank steak (thinly sliced against the grain) For best results, slice against the grain.
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch To coat the beef.
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil Adds depth of flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic Do not skip toasting for enhanced flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger Essential for authenticity.
  • 1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce To reduce sodium intake.
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar Adjust sweetness to taste.
  • 1/2 cup water To help with the sauce consistency.
Garnish
  • 1/2 cup green onions Use for garnish just before serving.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Toss the flank steak with cornstarch in a mixing bowl until evenly coated.
  2. Place the coated steak in a slow cooker and add sesame oil, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, brown sugar, and water. Stir gently to combine.
Cooking
  1. Cover and cook on HIGH for 2-3 hours or LOW for 4-5 hours until the beef is tender.
  2. Stir in green onions just before serving.

Notes

Serve over rice or noodles. For added crunch, garnish with crispy vegetables. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days in the fridge or freeze for up to 3 months.
