Ingredients
  

For the lasagna
  • 9 pieces lasagna noodles Cook according to package instructions
  • 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage Can swap out for turkey or veggies
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese Can substitute with cottage cheese for a cheaper option
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese More cheese can be added for flavor
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese Adds a nice topping flavor
  • 2 cups marinara sauce You can use store-bought or homemade
  • 1 large egg Helps to bind the ricotta mixture
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder Consider sautéing fresh garlic for added flavor
  • to taste Salt and pepper Adjust according to preference
  • Fresh basil for garnish Optional, adds a fresh touch

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente, then drain and set aside.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground meat until browned. Drain excess fat, then stir in the marinara sauce and simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Assembly
  1. Spread a layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a baking dish.
  2. Place three noodles on top, followed by half of the ricotta mixture, one-third of the mozzarella, and one-third of the meat sauce.
  3. Repeat the layers, ending with noodles, remaining meat sauce, mozzarella, and Parmesan on top.
  4. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  5. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  6. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil if desired.

Notes

To enhance the flavor, consider adding red pepper flakes or fresh herbs. Let the lasagna rest before serving for cleaner slices.
