Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 1 loaf French bread A thicker, crusty loaf will provide the best texture.
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream Can substitute with coconut cream for a dairy-free version.
  • 1 cup milk Can use almond milk for a dairy-free version.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter For greasing the baking dish.
  • Additional sugar sugar for caramelizing

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Slice the French bread into thick slices and place them in a greased baking dish.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread slices, ensuring they are well soaked.
  5. Cover and let it sit in the fridge for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden and custardy.
  2. Once baked, sprinkle sugar over the top and use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar until golden and crunchy.
  3. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

For added flavor, consider topping your French toast with fresh berries, a drizzle of maple syrup, or a dusting of powdered sugar. Leftovers can be kept in the fridge for about 3 days or frozen for about 2 months.
