Ingredients
  

For the Cookie Dough
  • 1 cup butter, softened Use room temperature butter for better blending
  • 1 cup maple syrup Can be substituted with honey or brown sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
For Topping
  • 1/2 cup sugar For sprinkling on top

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and maple syrup until smooth.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry mixture to the butter and maple syrup mixture, mixing until well combined.
  5. Scoop tablespoon-sized amounts of dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving space between cookies.
  6. Sprinkle the tops with sugar.
Baking
  1. Bake for 10–12 minutes or until the edges turn golden.
  2. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.

Notes

If you have leftovers, store in an airtight container for up to a week. For extra freshness, refrigerate for up to two weeks. Experiment with spices and add nuts or dried fruit for variation.
