Lasagna Ingredients
  • 9 pieces Lasagna noodles Regular or no-boil noodles
  • 1 pound Ground beef Can be substituted with ground turkey
  • 1 pound Pork sausage Choose sweet or spicy based on preference
  • 1 medium Onion Finely chopped
  • 1 medium Carrot Finely chopped
  • 1 stalk Celery Finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • 28 ounces Canned tomatoes Diced or crushed
  • 1 cup Red wine Optional, for depth of flavor
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil For sautéing
  • 2 leaves Bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Adjust to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Pepper Adjust to taste
  • 3 cups Milk For béchamel sauce
  • 4 tablespoons Butter For béchamel sauce
  • 1/4 cup Flour For béchamel sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg Freshly grated, for béchamel sauce
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese Grated, for layering
  • 1 cup Mozzarella cheese Shredded, for topping

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large pot, heat olive oil and sauté onion, carrot, celery, and garlic until soft.
  3. Add ground beef and pork sausage; cook until browned.
  4. Stir in tomato paste, canned tomatoes, red wine, bay leaves, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for at least 30 minutes.
Béchamel Sauce
  1. Melt butter in a saucepan, then stir in flour and cook for a few minutes.
  2. Gradually add milk, whisking until thickened. Season with nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
Assembly
  1. In a baking dish, layer lasagna noodles, Bolognese sauce, béchamel sauce, and cheeses.
  2. Repeat the layers and finish with béchamel and cheese on top.
Baking
  1. Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  2. Allow to rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Pair with a fresh side salad or garlic bread for crunch, and a splash of red wine for an added touch.
