Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature Ensure butter is at room temperature for best texture.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs Add one at a time, beating well after each.
Mix-Ins
  • 2 cups chocolate chips Use high-quality chocolate for best flavor.
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional) Add if desired.

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the flour and baking soda; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and salt until creamy.
  4. Add the vanilla extract and eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Gradually, add the flour mixture until just combined; do not overmix.
  6. Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts if using.
Baking
  1. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets.
  2. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
  3. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks.

Notes

Serve warm with milk or ice cream. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week or freeze for up to three months.
